Backyard Orchard is a small, family-run farm focused on growing low-spray, high quality fruit. Founded in 1994 by Dennis Sauerhage in Rising Sun, Indiana, Backyard Orchard specializes in variety.

During the summer season, Backyard sells over fifteen varieties of peaches, starting in late June.

From August onward, the farm produces:

• Apples
• Pears
• Asian pears
• Italian plums
• Grapes

Plus, Delicious, excellent keeping apples like Gold Rush and Enterprise enables Backyard to sell well into the winter.

Backyard Orchard looks forward to many years of serving the people of Cincinnati through the Hyde Park Farmers Market.

Growing Practices

All of Backyard’s produce is grown using low-spray methods. Many of our apples are disease-resistant and do not need as many fungicide sprays. In addition, reliance on sprays is reduced because Backyard Orchard utilizes Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques, such as leaf removal for scab control and mating traps.
