Jean-François Flechet is born and raised in Belgium. He came to the US to do a PhD in Economics at University of Pennsylvania. He moved to Cincinnati to build statistical applications for a market research company. He loves to cook and has always been passionate about food. After obtaining his green card, Jean-François decided to take a chance and try something else. Six years ago he went back to Belgium to visit his family and came back with a 120lbs cast iron waffle maker. He began baking Belgian waffles at the back of a produce store at Findlay Market. The business grew one waffle at a time, from one waffle iron and one person to multiple locations and many employees.
Taste of Belgium (TOB) operates a full service restaurant in Over-the-Rhine, a bakery at Findlay Market and a small store in Columbus. Taste of Belgium is opening a new location at the upcoming Friendly Market in Florence, KY this summer and a new restaurant on Short Vine near UC Campus in the fall.
